BTS members Jung Kook and RM to release duel documents

BTS members RM and Jung Kook plan to produce full-length documentaries within the next month.

“RM: Right People, Wrong Place,” directed by Lee Seok-joon and distributed by CJ 4DPLEX, will premiere at the Busan International Film Festival in October.

The film “tells the story of the production of (RM’s) second solo album, ‘Right Place, Wrong Person,’ which was released in May. The film adds meaning as a record of BTS leader RM, solo artist RM and human being Kim Namjoon’s self-exploration, while also embodying the sensual cinematography that was well-received in his solo album music video, giving the feeling of watching an art film,” CJ 4DPLEX said in a statement.

Director Lee previously produced the music videos for “Arson” and “MORE,” the double title track from BTS’ J-Hope’s solo album Jack in the Box.

The film will have an open-air screening in Busan (October 2-11) in venues large enough to accommodate the expected crowds. Further release information has not yet been finalized.

“It’s very significant that ‘RM: Right People, Wrong Place’ will be the first K-pop documentary to be screened outdoors during the Busan International Film Festival,” said Seo Kye-won, CEO of HYBE Media Studio, which produced the film.

Hybe Corp

Hybe Corp. is also behind “Jung Kook: I Am Still,” a previously announced film that chronicles the artist’s eight-month journey following his historic solo debut, “Seven (feat. Latto),” in July 2023.
Specialist event distribution company Trafalgar Releasing is releasing the film on September 18. The company says there are limited screenings but the distribution reach is 120 countries.

The companies released a clip from the film ahead of the premiere and say they will support the ongoing release by offering digital treats throughout the four weeks of screenings, accessible via mobile devices via a QR code at the end of the film’s presentation. Fans will be able to access a new video clip every week starting September 18.

Jung Kook has become a notable solo artist. His singles “3D (feat. Jack Harlow)” and “Standing Next to You” both reached top ten status, becoming the first K-pop solo artist to have three songs in the top ten of the Billboard HOT 100 simultaneously. His album Golden enjoyed a 24-week run on the Billboard 200.

Hybe said “Jung Kook: I Am Still” is the 10th BTS feature film he has produced. Films about and by BTS have proven popular on specialized and general streaming platforms. Earlier this year, Asian streamer Rakuten Viki announced a slate of nine BTS films and entertainment shows. Disney+ previously aired five BTS films. And in May, Korean joint venture wA announced a deal with Hybe to slate BTS and Seventeen shows to play on its U.S. streamer KOCOWA+.
