Bumper Fringe Program Guarantees There’s Something for Everyone at NRSC 2024

The Fringe program at the upcoming National Road Safety Conference (NRSC) includes 36 presentations, with sessions focusing on two-wheeled vehicles, young and mature drivers, commercial driving, technology and data.

NRSC 2024 will take place at the Hilton Metropole Birmingham on 6 and 7 November. The event is organised by Road Safety GB and co-sponsored by Transport for West Midlands, Jenoptik, Westcotec and National Highways.

In total, the NRSC 2024 programme includes an impressive 79 presentations and workshops over two days.

The Fringe programme includes 36 presentations, with sessions covering powered motorcycles, young and mature riders, commercial riding, and technology and data.

The mature driver session includes two presentations by older driver consultant Rob Heard – one introducing a new VR film and the other focusing on vision – as well as presentations by psychologist Dr Carol Hawley on standardised assessment and senior mental health officer Graham Mylward on the driving fitness of people with dementia.

The session on young drivers includes presentations from Shaun Helman and Jill Weekley from TRL on the Driver 2020 project; Fay Goodman, road safety campaigner, who will discuss safer driving behaviours; Sharron Huddleston, co-founder of Forget-me-not Families Uniting, and Rebecca Morris, Head of Communications at RoadPeac, who will outline the step-by-step process of obtaining a driving licence.me; and a look at the work of the Ely Memorial Fund from Angela Tyler, charity manager, and Diana Wood, director and trustee.

The Main Conference programme includes 39 presentations, with sessions focusing on active travel, technology and poverty, along with ‘speed dating’ – a series of speed presentations lasting just 5 minutes – that cover all sessions.

In addition, four workshops will be held over two days.

The exhibition, which runs alongside the conference, features 30 stands, including nine from exhibitors who were exhibiting at the NRSC for the first time.
