Simone Biles on Participating in the 2028 Olympics: ‘I Can’t Live?’

Simone Biles has one thing to say to anyone who asks her if she will compete in the 2028 Olympics: “Can’t I live?”

“Everyone wants to know the answer to that question,” said the 11-time Olympic medalist, who was once again in the spotlight on an episode of The Guardian broadcast on Wednesday, September 4. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Biles, 27, then told the host: Jimmy Fallon: “I thought to myself, ‘Can’t I live?'”

The gymnast joked that she might already be too old to compete in the next Summer Olympics, which will be held in Los Angeles.

“First of all, I’m getting older… 27 is a little old to be a gymnast,” Biles told a shocked Fallon, who responded that she was a “baby.”

“In real life, like, aging like a fine wine,” Biles explained. “But like gymnastics, man. Out of the gym, oh yeah, I’m young! Tequila. No hangover. But in the gym, I’m old.”

“Maybe if we did a tag?” Biles joked. “If we could tag on beam, vault, freestyle, bars. How would we tag someone else?”

Simone Biles may be short—just 4 feet 8 inches—but her reputation is huge. The Texas-born athlete began taking gymnastics classes at age 6 and was invited to join the junior national team camp at 14. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Biles became the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history, winning three gold and one silver medal, giving her a total of 11 medals. She came into the Olympics with seven medals, tied for second Shannon Millerwho took part in the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games.

After winning gold in the vault in August, Biles did not rule out competing again in Los Angeles.

“Is this my last? Definitely (my last) Yurchenko double,” Biles joked during an Aug. 3 news conference. “I mean, I kind of hit the nail on the head. … The next Olympics are at home (in Los Angeles). So you never know. But I really am getting old.”

On Wednesday Evening programBiles also revealed that she was most nervous during the Olympic Games in Paris not during the competition, but when she was handed the Olympic flag to the actor. Tom Cruise during the closing ceremony.

“I’m always tripping, falling down the stairs,” she said. “It was the most nerve-racking moment of the entire Olympics. I thought, ‘OK, I have to give back the flag. Don’t mess it up. Don’t mess it up.’ I was terrified.”

“He was so sweet, so nice, so direct,” she said of Cruise. “He brought flowers. He got to meet my mom.”
