“I was devastated for Jenn”

The show’s host admitted he “never expected” Devin’s sudden decision to end their engagement.

Every week during Hen partyhost Jesse Palmer answered a few questions about Jenn’s “journey” in search of “love.” Today, Jesse shares his thoughts via email about the dumpster fire that was the finale.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Wow. So… what was your reaction when you found out Devin and Jenn had split and that you had to break the news to Bachelor Nation on live television?

JESSE PALMER: When I found out, I felt a lot of emotions. I was sad. I was devastated for Jenn. I was confused. I never expected this to happen, considering everything I saw between them in Hawaii.

Jenn was understandably distraught, but she handled it incredibly well. How would you describe the mood in the studio when Jenn revealed what happened after her engagement to Devin?

People in the audience were shocked, as I’m sure people were watching at home. We’ve never seen Jenn so emotional, and while it must have been hard for her to say it, she showed incredible strength and courage.

You’ve tried to get Devin to explain what went wrong multiple times. What do you think of his answers?

I still feel like Devin never said why everything ended or what changed.

James brought an incredible “protective big brother” energy both during family visits and in the studio. Could the show hire him to attend all the hometown dates and provide his assessment of the final candidates going forward?

I’m a huge fan of James. I went to talk to him during a commercial break to tell him that. He told me that he had never cried in front of anyone in his life until he talked to Jenn in Hawaii and again during After the last rose! I know Jenn is so grateful for his support. You can see how much she loves her little sister.

What were you thinking as you sat with Jenn and watched the engagement?

As hard as it was to watch, I think we also saw an empowered woman doing things on her own terms. I couldn’t be more excited for what’s next for Jenn, and I know she’ll be great in Dancing with the stars!
