Ganesha Festival: Congress denies BJP MLA’s allegations of restrictions on Ganesha festival | Mangaluru News

Mangalore: KPCC General Secretary Padmaraj R. Poojary he said that Mangalore MLA from South City D Wedawjas KamathThe accusations against the state government that it has imposed unnecessary rules and regulations to hamper the celebration of Sarvajanik Ganeshotsava are baseless.
“Let the MLA come out of his narrow-mindedness. The government has not imposed any restrictions on Ganesha Festival celebrations. The police sought details of tableaux and guest lists for obtaining licences as part of the rules to ensure law and order. Such procedures were in place even during the BJP’s tenure in the state,” Poojary told reporters on Thursday.
In response to Kamath’s accusations that the Congress was attacking Hindu festivals, Poojary said that even Congress workers celebrate Ganeshotsava. “We too celebrate Ganesha festival with fervour. The Dakshina Kannada government and district administration are also supporting the Sarvajanika (public) Ganeshotsava committees for smooth conduct of the festival,” he said.
District Congress Committee (DCC) president K Harish Kumar wanted to know if the Congress government or the district administration prevented the Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava committees from organising the celebrations last year.
“Did the government prevent any committee from organising the festival last year? The circular on rules and regulations is not new. It was issued during the festival every year, even when the BJP was in power. The old circular was reissued only this year to prevent any untoward incident,” he said.
On a question about alleged financial irregularities in Mangalore University, Poojary said the issue would soon be discussed with experts and higher education minister MC Sudhakar. Harish Kumar said an inquiry would be held to look into allegations of misuse of funds in the university.
