This year’s Paralympic Games in Paris were full of golden moments – from historic victories to marriage proposals.

American Matt Stutzman, known as the “Archer with No Arms,” won his first Paralympic gold medal with a 149-147 victory over China’s Ai Xinliang in the individual compound bow event. With the victory, Stutzman became the first athlete with no arms to win a gold medal in para archery.

Also on the archery field, Briton Jodie Grinham won two medals: bronze in the women’s individual block and gold in the mixed team block with her teammate Nathan MacQueen. At seven months pregnant, she is the first openly pregnant athlete to win a Paralympic medal in archery.

When twins Debora and Beatriz Borges Carneiro took the podium in the women’s 100-meter breaststroke, they paid tribute to gold medalist Louise Fiddes, echoing the time when American gymnasts Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles paid tribute to Brazilian Rebecca Andrade at the Olympics earlier this summer.

Outside of the competition, some athletes took advantage of their time in the City of Love to propose. One was Brazilian Rogerio Junior Xavier de Oliveira, who proposed on the badminton court. Oliveira drew a note asking Brazilian seated volleyball player Edwarda de Oliveira Dias to marry him.

Italian runner Alessandro Ossola also had a similar idea. After being eliminated from the tournament, Ossola ran to the stands, got down on one knee and popped the big question to his girlfriend, Arianna. His first wife died in a motorcycle accident in 2015, which also left Ossola without most of his leg.
