This weekend, community members are invited to a festival of food, drink, music, art, games and adventure on the prairie.

The event gates will open on Saturday, September 7 at 12:00 noon at The Burning Barrel, 292 North 2100 Road in Lecompton.

Brian Strecker and Kristin Werner opened the farm-restaurant and event space in 2022.

“Bring your picnic blankets, lawn chairs and pop-up tents to the festival on the farm. After setting up on the concert lawn, enjoy a bite to eat and a farm-fresh beverage while you meet our talented artists and makers,” event organizers wrote in a press release. “In between bands, take a walk through 20 acres of Native Prairie that lead to natural destinations and activity areas.”

Live music will be provided by Western Cuts from 2pm to 4pm, The Roseline from 5pm to 7pm and The Local Honeys from 8pm to 10pm.

There will be seasonal food from Fox & Pearl, Public at The Brickyard, craft beers from Central Standard Brewing and Lawrence Beer Co., and Burning Barrel’s own wine and beverages. Food will be available from noon to 8 p.m., and drinks from noon to 11 p.m. There will be a water station to refill bottles.

The local art fair, which will take place from noon to 7 p.m., will feature works by Delicate Hammer, Toro Designs, Treeline Creations, Luna Sol, LFK Press, Wind Earth Atelier, Sue’s From Kansas and many others.

Tickets are $17.50 for ages 6-12 and $35 for ages 13 and up and can be purchased at burningbarrelkansas.com/wildfire-events.

According to the release, children 5 and under can attend the event for free regardless of the weather, but we ask that dogs stay at home as county regulations and farm safety protocols prohibit bringing outside animals into the event area.
