MasOrange announces voluntary layoff plan for up to 795 employees

Alphavalue / Divacons | MasOrange, the telecommunications company created by the merger of Orange and Masmovil in Spain, has announced a voluntary redundancy plan for up to 795 employees, representing 9.5% of the company’s current 8,400 workforce, according to an internal communique sent to employees. Yesterday, MasOrange agreed with the government to maintain its workforce, although it is a matter of voluntary redundancies, and compulsory redundancies are not completely ruled out if the volunteer quota is not met.

The negotiating table between companies and unions will be set on September 17 and will have a month to reach an agreement. The unions rejected this adjustment. Orange and Masmóvil closed the pending issues on March 26 to seal a 50/50 merger in Spain, after a transaction worth around 18.6 billion euros, and from the same day began operating as a single company with a workforce of around 8,400 employees, of which 6,600 came from Orange and around 1,800 from Masmóvil.
