The Wretched has once again extended its West End run.

The show, by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, is based on the Victor Hugo novel. It will celebrate its 40th anniversary in London next year, and there are big plans for community and arena productions (and probably more exciting bits to come).

The current London production stars Milan van Waardenburg as Jean Valjean, Stewart Clarke as Javert, Katie Hall as Fantine, Will Callan as Marius, Amena El-Kindy as Éponine, Lulu-Mae Pears as Cosette, Luke Kempner as Thénardier, Claire Machin as Madame Thénardier and Djavan van de Fliert as Enjolras.

The band includes Annabelle Aquino, Hazel Baldwin, Brad Barnley, Michael Baxter, Emily Olive Boyd, Rosy Church, Ben Culleton, Matthew Dale, Matt Dempsey, Sophie-May Feek, Matt Hayden, Tom Hext, Christopher Jacobsen, Jessica Johns-Parsons, Yazmin King, Sam Kipling, Anouk van Laake, Harry Lake, Sarah Lark, Ellie Ann Lowe, Ben Oatley, Adam Pearce, Jordan Simon Pollard, Jonathan Stevens, Phoebe Williams and Ollie Wray.

The music is by Schoenberg, the lyrics are by Herbert Kretzmer, and the original French text is by Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel. Additional material is by James Fenton, and the adaptation is by Trevor Nunn and John Caird.

Cameron Mackintosh’s production has orchestrations by Stephen Metcalfe, Christopher Jahnke and Stephen Brooker with original orchestrations by John Cameron. The production is directed by James Powell and Laurence Connor, and designed by Matt Kinley inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo, with costumes by Andreane Neofitou, Christine Rowland and Paul Wills, lighting by Paule Constable, sound by Mick Potter, projections by Finn Ross and Fifty Nine Productions, musical staging by Geoffrey Garratt and musical supervision by Stephen Brooker and Alfonso Casado Trigo.

The 2024 Christmas schedule includes performances on Monday, December 23 (2:30 and 7:30 p.m.), Tuesday, December 24 (2:30 p.m.), Friday, December 27 (2:30 and 7:30 p.m.), Saturday, December 28 (2:30 and 7:30 p.m.), Sunday, December 29 (2:30 p.m.), Monday, December 30 (7:30 p.m.), Tuesday, December 31 (1:00 and 6:00 p.m.), Thursday, January 2 (7:30 p.m.), Friday, January 3 (2:30 and 7:30 p.m.) and Saturday, January 4 (2:30 and 7:30 p.m.).
