By defeating Frances Tiafoe, Taylor Fritz became the first American since 2009 to reach the final of a men’s Grand Slam singles tournament.

On Sunday, he will try to break another long slump: no American has won a major final since 2003, when Andy Roddick triumphed on these same courts.

Fritz will face number one seed Jannik Sinner, who easily defeated the competition to advance to his second Grand Slam final of the year.

Here’s everything you need to know about Sunday’s final.

Location: Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing, New York

Streaming: ESPN+, ESPN Porte

Pewter: $3,600,000 (winner), $1,800,000 (runner-up)

Taylor Fritz came from two sets to one down to reach the final of his first Grand Slam.

In the end, the 11th-seeded player managed to outlast his opponent, who felt a sudden wave of fatigue after the fourth set.

In the final, the 26-year-old American will face the most difficult task in all of men’s tennis.

Jannik Sinner has won 33 of 35 matches on hardcourt this year, including his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open and two ATP Maters 1000 hardcourt titles (Miami Open, Cincinnati Open).

An American audience eager to see the champion for the first time since 2003 will motivate Fritz, but it is unclear whether it will have a significant impact.

The top-seeded Italian is doing much better at the moment and if Fritz is to stay in the game he will need to rise to the physical challenge and avoid playing too much defence.

Fritz may win the set, but Sinner should win his second Grand Slam title this year, continuing his dominance on hard courts in 2024.
