‘All Creatures’ Star Says James’ Return Is ‘More Challenging Than He Expected’

‘All Creatures’ Star Says James’ Return Is ‘More Challenging Than He Expected’

He said: “James thinks he’s going to come back and be the Super Veteran, the Super Dad, and he’s going to juggle both roles seamlessly. But the reality is very different.

“Having a little kid and trying to be a vet at the same time, when those two worlds collide, is a lot more challenging than he expected. That makes the episodes a lot of fun.”

“I think James always found comfort in knowing that Helen had a strong support network around her – Siegfried, Mrs Hall, Carmody in Skeldale, her dad and Jenny are all close by. But it’s still a lot of work.”

Ralph continued: “As James returns and reintegrates himself into the family, taking on more of his fatherly responsibilities, he becomes increasingly aware of how much effort Helen has put into raising the children alone over the past few months.

“She really appreciates what she did, even more when she comes back and sees the reality of juggling everything with a newborn.”

As for Tristan’s return, Siegfried star Samuel West suggested it wouldn’t necessarily be an easy return or reunion for the two brothers.

West explained: “He’s obviously changed. And he’s changed in ways that I don’t fully understand. He’s obviously seen some horrible things that he’s not talking about. And he’s clearly masking it with alcohol and good humor.”

West also revealed that Siegfried will initially struggle with Mrs. Hall’s new job as village chief dealing with the power outage.

Asked how Siegfried was reacting to Mrs. Hall’s new job, West said, “Extremely badly. Selfishly and overstepping boundaries, in a way that an analyst would have a lot of fun analyzing, he doesn’t understand why the village chief, Mr. Bosworth, is pissing him off so much.”

All seasons 1-4 of Creatures Great and Small are available to watch on My5. Season 5 will air on Thursday 19th September at 9pm on Channel 5 and My5. James Herriot’s book “All Creatures Great and Small” can be ordered on Amazon.
