Trump jokes he hopes wife Melania ‘says good things about me’ in upcoming memoir

Former President Donald Trump joked at his Long Island rally Wednesday that he hoped his wife Melania would write “good things” about him in her upcoming memoir.

The 78-year-old Republican presidential candidate drew cheers and laughter from the raucous Nassau Coliseum crowd as he promoted the former first lady’s book, which is due out in October.

“Go out and buy her book,” he exclaimed. “She just wrote a book. I hope she said good things about me.”

“Go buy it, it’s great. And if she says anything bad about me, I’ll call you all and tell you not to buy it, to get rid of it,” Trump joked, to laughter from his supporters.

Melania Trump, 54, has stepped up publicity for the book, titled “Melania,” in recent weeks.

Earlier Wednesday, Melania defended her work as a nude model by addressing her former career on social media. The mother-of-one asked in a voiceover: “Are we no longer able to appreciate the beauty of the human body?”

The former first lady said in a previous video posted online that she hoped to give readers “the truth,” claiming she was the victim of “false statements” during her husband’s time in the spotlight.

The book can be purchased for $40. A signed memoir costs $75.

The book’s release comes a month before Election Day, when Trump will seek to retake the White House from Vice President Kamala Harris.

Speaking on Long Island on Wednesday, he said the recent assassination attempts had “strengthened my resolve” and predicted he would be the first Republican presidential candidate to win New York in four decades.

“The reason I’m here,” Trump told the cheering crowd, is because “we’re going to win New York.”
