ITV drama starring Sophie Turner confirms release date

ITV crime drama Joanna, starring Sophie Turner, finally confirmed its release date.

This Game of Thrones The star plays real-life jewel thief Joan Hannington in the six-part drama, which will premiere on ITV1 and ITVX September 29.

The second episode will air the following evening, September 30, and all parts will be available on ITVX after the broadcast of the first episode.

The recently released trailer teases a tense adventure with Joan as she tries to balance her life as a mother with her criminal activities while wearing gorgeous ’80s outfits.

Speaking about taking on the role of Joan, Turner previously shared his thoughts on the thief’s “fascinating” backstory.

“I am thrilled to be bringing Joan Hannington’s fascinating life story to the big screen. Joanna,“said the actor. “She is one of the most notorious figures in London’s criminal underworld, which earned her the nickname “The Godmother.”

“A woman who swings between a flourishing and daring career as a jewel thief while also trying to get her daughter back from welfare, we see a mother in despair drawn into the exciting world of crime.”

International co-production based on Hannington’s 2004 memoirs. I Am Who I Am: The True Story of Britain’s Most Notorious Jewel Thief, Joan will air on The CW in the US.

The series also stars Frank Dillane as Boisie Hannington, with supporting roles including Kirsty J Curtis, Gershwyn Eustache Jr., Tomi May, Laura Aikman and Alex Blake.

First announced in 2022. Joan was praised by The CW’s entertainment president Brad Schwartz, who described Turner’s performance as “phenomenal.”

“It’s going to be a prize bait, this show,” he said on Hollywood ReporterS Top 5 on TV podcast in 2023 “The Diaries look amazing, Sophie Turner is phenomenal… I’m really, really excited about this one.”

Joan airs its first episode on ITV1 on September 29, with all six episodes available on ITVX following the first episode. The drama will air on The CW in the US.
