Erik Menendez and his brother, Lyle Menendezare known for their highly publicized 1993 trial for the murders of their parents. The brothers shot their mother, Mary, and father, José, claiming they had been subjected to emotional and sexual abuse by their parents during childhood. Additionally, the Menendez brothers revealed that they feared for their lives when surrounded by their parents in their home. Although both were convicted in 1996, both Erik and Lyle married behind bars.

Tammi has published a book about her marriage to Eric. Titled They Said We’d Never Make It: My Life With Eric MenendezTammi has spoken about how they managed to maintain their relationship despite his life sentence. She also appeared in an interview with MSNBC in 2005, admitting that she “never expected” to fall in love with Erik.

“You know, I wrote him one letter and he wrote back and I went to visit him in prison and our relationship grew,” Tammi explained. “And I didn’t intend to have a relationship with Eric, but it’s something that happened. And you know, it’s a very good relationship that I have with him.”

When asked how she and Erik cope with the prison system’s strict visitation rules, Tammi said it’s “very difficult.” Tammi also noted that before she and Erik got married, the New Jersey native claimed he once had a girlfriend.

During the interview, Tammi mentioned that she found it “sad” that Erik thought he was in a relationship with anyone while he was in prison.

“Actually, he was — in one of the letters he wrote to me, he said he had a girlfriend that he’s had for a few years. And I said, ‘That’s so sad that he has a girlfriend — he thinks he has a girlfriend,’” Tammi explained, before adding, “So I understand where the public opinion is coming from (about our relationship). But I get emotional support from Erik.”

When asked if Erik’s murder conviction bothered her, Tammi replied that it “makes her reflect.”

“Everybody asks me. You know, ‘Is she crazy? Is she crazy?'” Tammi admitted, referring to how people perceive her. “That worries me, but I know the person Erik is, I know his heart, I know his soul, and I know what happened that night. And I get it. I believe that in any person, if you put yourself in certain circumstances, you’re going to be able to kill someone. I believe Erik is a very good person.”

Is Lyle Menendez married?

As for Erik’s brother, Lyle (real name: Joseph Lyle), he married twice in prison. He married his first wife, Anna Erikssonin 1996 and divorced in 2001. Two years later, Lyle married his wife, Rebecca Sneedin 2003.
