Sony Reveals PlayStation 1 Design for PS5/Pro to Celebrate 30th Anniversary

Sony continues to celebrate 30 years of PlayStation with the launch of new special edition products that will instantly remind people of the original PlayStation console.

The original PlayStation console was released on December 3, 1994, and featured the now-familiar gray plastic finish. To celebrate this look, Sony’s new products will replicate this finish with the new PlayStation 5 Pro, PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, and PlayStation Portal all revealed.

New Dual Sense Edge and DualSense controllers were also announced, which mimic the design of the original PlayStation controller.

As for the new consoles, the machines will also feature other special bundle extras to complete the look, including new DualSense controllers. Other extras include:

  • Original PlayStation Controller Cable Connector Housing
  • Four PlayStation Shapes cable ties
  • PlayStation sticker
  • Limited Edition PlayStation Poster (1 of 30 possible designs)
  • PlayStation Paper Clip

Pre-orders for the new hardware will begin on September 26, and the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection will officially launch to the public on November 21. “Customers will be able to purchase 12,300 PlayStation 5 Pro – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle consoles, with limited edition numbers etched into them. The number represents the month and date of the original PlayStation console’s release,” explains Sony’s press release announcing the collection.
