Jelly Roll gets emotional after reaching a major career milestone

Country singer Jelly Roll has had an incredible breakthrough as an artist over the past few years, and his star continues to rise.

The “I Am Not Okay” hitmaker — whose real name is Jason DeFord — will star in Saturday Night Live later this month, during the premiere of the show’s 50th season — and he can’t believe it.

The statement was made on Wednesday, September 18, via SNLJelly, 39, expressed his joy at the news on his private X (formerly Twitter) account.

“I’m about to cry,” Jelly said. “SNL 50th Season Premiere.”

An hour later, Jelly once again admitted that he still couldn’t get over the big event.

“Saturday Night Live, people – I can’t stop thinking about it, lol,” he said.

Jelly’s wife, Bunnie XO, was equally excited about the news, joining in on her husband’s excitement via her Instagram Story. “Daddy’s going to SNL!!!!” she wrote.

Actress Jean Smart, who just won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in Hacks for the third time – will host the premiere SNL50th season. Sam Jelly was also in attendance at the Emmy ceremony on Sunday, September 15, where he performed “I Am Not Okay” during the show’s in memoriam segment.

SNLThe 50th season has a promising lineup this season, with comedian Nate Bargatze as host and Coldplay set to perform on the Oct. 5 show. Ariana Grande will host the Oct. 12 show, and Stevie Nicks will be the musical guest for the episode. Michael Keaton — who recently changed his stage name to Michael Keaton Douglas — will host SNL Oct. 19, with Billie Eilish as the musical guest. The last host-musical guest duo revealed on Wednesday was John Mulaney and Chappell Roan.

Fans can watch the season premiere SNL on Saturday, September 28 on NBC at 11:30 p.m. ET, and can also be watched live on Peacock.
