Lorde began dating photographer James Lowe when she was 16 and he was 24. It was actually her mom, Sonja Yelich, who had the most to say about the relationship. She explained in 2014, Rolling stone that she didn’t approve of the age difference, but there wasn’t much she could do to dissuade her daughter from the idea and she ultimately liked Lowe as a person.
