Upcoming colonial RPG Greedfall 2 reveals early access details

The problem with launching a game in Early Access is that you have to do it all over again. It’s not just about releasing a game once, getting to a full release, and then doing the release dance again. Getting there is the whole point of the Early Access program and the upcoming RPG Greedfall 2 Dying World presented a roadmap showing what form the updates will take.

Early Access for Greedfall 2 does two things – it lets fans know what to expect in the first few months of the RPG’s release, and it also lets everyone know how much of the game there will be in its first iteration. When the game hits Early Access, players will be able to access the beginning of the main quest with three regions to explore – Teer Fradee, Thynia, and Uxantis – with six companions and an equal number of skill trees.

Later in the fall, a new companion will appear with their own quests, the main story will be expanded, a new region will appear, the player hub will open, and two new skill trees will be added. Then in the winter, another companion and quest will appear, a crafting system will appear, local quests will be released on Teer Fradee and Uxantis, and a new skill tree and abilities.

From there, things get a little more vague – at least in terms of timing. A photo mode, more quests, a level cap increase, and more have been promised, but there’s no time frame for anything just yet. Which is understandable, considering there’s no hard cap on how long Greedfall 2 will spend in Early Access – with the developer simply stating that the game “will be released once both you and I are happy with the game’s content and polish.”

Recently, the Greedfall 2 developer has been dealing with allegations that the game isn’t progressing as planned, with employees threatening to strike. Despite this, our Greedfall 2 preview reported that the game is already looking pretty impressive, and the roadmap for post-Early Access content should hopefully inspire confidence in the RPG’s future.
