LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Michael Madsen, known for his roles in films “Kill Bill” and “Reservoir Dogs”, has officially filed for divorce from his wife DeAnna Madsen after 28 years of marriage.

The 66-year-old actor cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their separation, which came after the tragic death of their 26-year-old son, Hudson, who committed suicide in January 2022.

In court documents obtained by People, Michael Madsen made serious accusations against his wife, DeAnna Madsen, claiming that her neglect and struggles with alcoholism drove their son to suicide.

Madsen’s September 17 letter detailed his belief that these issues were key to the couple’s separation. He insisted that the divorce was not entirely due to “irreconcilable differences,” emphasizing that his wife’s actions were a significant factor in Hudson’s tragic death.

Madsen, represented by his longtime attorney Perry Wander, filed for a domestic violence restraining order, according to documents. He also denies the domestic violence allegations made against him by DeAnna last month.

Madsen’s statement further stated that “Respondent has also contributed significantly to my personal problems. I am the victim of an abusive, codependent and toxic relationship which ended with Respondent breaking into my home and wrongfully arresting me for domestic violence.”

The divorce comes as Madsen was arrested in August on a charge of spousal assault following an altercation with DeAnna. His bail was set at $20,000, and Madsen’s attorney, Perry Wander, later said the actor had asked his wife to leave the house, citing ongoing problems in their relationship.

Wander insisted Madsen was innocent of the domestic violence allegations, adding that the actor showed “tremendous compassion and composure” throughout the situation.

DeAnna responded by saying, “Michael is struggling with his own personal issues. My children and I have been supporting him as best we can. At this time, we would like to ask for privacy,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Following the death of his son Hudson, Michael Madsen shared his sadness and disbelief in an emotional statement to The Los Angeles Times earlier this year.

Reflecting on his final encounters with Hudson, Madsen expressed shock, noting that his last conversation with his son gave no indication of the tragedy that was to come.

“I’m in shock because my son, who I spoke to just a few days ago, said he was happy — the last message from him was, ‘I love you, dad,'” the actor told the portal.

“I didn’t see any signs of depression. It’s so tragic and sad. I’m just trying to make sense of everything and understand what happened,” he said at the time.

“He had the typical financial struggles that people have in life, but he wanted a family. He was looking to the future, so it’s amazing. I just can’t fathom what happened,” Madsen shared, still struggling to understand the loss.

Hudson lived in Hawaii with his wife, Carlie, and moved to Oahu in 2019. Madsen and his estranged wife, DeAnna, have two other sons, Calvin, 27, and Luke, 18. Additionally, Madsen has two older sons, Christian, 34, and Max, 30, from his previous relationship with Jeannine Bisignano.

Michael Madsen’s statement that his wife DeAnna Madsen contributed to the tragic death of their son Hudson has sparked a backlash online.

Many users expressed displeasure at the severity of the accusation, with one commenting: “That’s a harsh claim. Ouch.”

“It seems like he wants to blame others when there may not have been obvious signs of depression,” another user wrote.

“I’m sorry, but everyone is responsible for their own choices. Being cruel to yourself won’t change anything; I hope they find peace and healing,” the user said.

Another added: “The son was an adult… can’t blame her.”

One user wrote: “Most marriages don’t survive the loss of a child.”

Another sympathized with the couple’s suffering: “Pain leads to blame. I’ve seen it. May God heal them both.”
