Colin Farrell Reveals NSFW Details About His Prosthetic Penguin Bodysuit During HBO Series Premiere

Colin Farrell became famous after transforming his handsome face and slim 5’8” frame for the new HBO series The Penguin, with the help of two-time Oscar-nominated makeup artist Mike Marino.

So when the DC Comics crime drama needed a nude scene, Dick Smith’s protégé created an inappropriate body part specifically for the 48-year-old Irishman to make his role as disfigured crime lord Oswald “Oz” Cobb more authentic on-screen.

“Marino is so twisted and brilliant. He was like, ‘I made you a penguin penis,’” Colin recalled to People on Thursday.

I said, “Really? They won’t even see it. I don’t know if I want to walk around the set with a penguin penis.” And he said, “No, no, no, dude! It’s detachable, it’s Velcro. It’s got a beak on the end.” So I had a penguin penis.”

Farrell continued, “I had a bodysuit on, so I was basically covered from my wrists to my ankles. The only things that were me were my hands and feet. Everything else, including my ears, were pieces. Everything was covered.”

So when the DC Comics crime drama needed a nude scene, Dick Smith’s (right, pictured in 2022) protégé created an unusual body part specifically for the 48-year-old Irishman to make his performance as disfigured crime lord Oswald “Oz” Cobb more authentic on screen.

The Oscar-nominated actor’s transformation, which was reportedly inspired by Harvey Weinstein, took three hours each morning, with Mike and his team at Prosthetic Renaissance working on two costume pieces and nine facial pieces.

“I couldn’t believe it, yeah. I’d never done anything like that. You move your face and see what happens. I knew that facial expressions would come out in a certain way through the mask and how beautifully designed it was, so I just did it,” says Colin, who honed his gangster voice with dialect coach Jessica Drake.

“If it wasn’t for Mike’s design, I’m telling you, if it was just me, with a fucking cigarette, in a top hat, with a little limp and an umbrella that was a machine gun, there would be no HBO show.”

Farrell also served as executive producer on the eight-episode Lauren LeFranc series, which premieres Thursday at 9 p.m. on HBO and Max.

Penguin currently has a “certified fresh movie” rating of 88% (based on 74 reviews) and an audience rating of 73% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Gotham City criminal underworld series is set one week after the events of Matt Reeves’ critically acclaimed sequel to 2022’s “Batman,” which grossed $772.2 million at the global box office.

The Penguin, which does not feature Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, also stars Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Clancy Brown, Mark Strong, Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Deirdre O’Connell and Michael Zegen.

Producer and star Sugar will also reprise his role as the Penguin in Reeves’ 2026 sequel The Batman – Part II, which is set to begin filming next April at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in England.

Colin will also star as David opposite Margot Robbie in Kogonada’s California-set romantic fantasy film A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, due in U.S. cinemas on May 9.

Next year, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will honor Farrell with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The honor requires a $50,000 sponsorship, a $250 application fee and a fan nomination.

On October 7, the two-time Golden Globe winner and his former Ondine co-star Alicja Bachleda-Curús, who separated in 2010, will celebrate the 15th birthday of their son Henry Tadeusz Farrell.

Colin also has a 21-year-old son, James Padraig Farrell, who has Angelman syndrome, and his mother is Kim Bordenave.

Farrell, who spent time in rehab in 2006 and 2018, has reportedly had romances with celebrities including Michelle Rodriguez, Angelina Jolie, Britney Spears and Demi Moore.
