‘Love Is Blind?’ Casting Director Reveals Why the Show Needs Singles from Ohio

If you’re looking for love and a chance to star in the popular Netflix reality show “Love is Blind,” you’re in luck. The show is currently casting singles in Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Columbus.

Donna Driscoll, head of casting at Kinetic Content (the company behind the show), shares details about the Ohio casting process. The Buckeye State stood out because they hadn’t previously looked to the Midwest for cast members. Plus, “Love Is Blind” host and 98 Degrees star Nick Lachey is a proud Cincinnati native.

The online application includes more than 60 questions about marriage readiness and commitment, and applicants are encouraged to submit a 15-second video sharing why they are ready to find love in the pods. The full casting process can take three to six months.

What is the Netflix series ‘Love is Blind’ about?

The Emmy-nominated reality show first graced our screens in 2020. Hosted by Nick and Vanessa Lachey, it follows the experiments of single men and women who seek love and marriage by dating in “pods” where they can talk to each other but not see each other.

Over the course of several weeks, successful couples get engaged, move in together, plan a wedding, and test whether their physical bond matches the emotional one they developed in the group—and whether love is blind.

Set in Washington, D.C., the seventh season of Love is Blind will premiere on October 2, 2024, exclusively on Netflix.

What considerations will be made when casting Ohio contestants for “Love is Blind”?

Marriage oriented: More important is the person for whom finding love is more important than appearing on TV.

“I think there’s a huge misconception that a lot of reality shows cast actors, or there’s a script, or we want models and influencers… and nothing could be further from the truth. We’re looking for regular people who are looking for love,” Driscoll said.

Authenticity: The ideal cast member, he adds, should be willing to tell their story and express themselves openly when it comes to building a relationship with someone on the other side of the wall.

Comfort: One of the distinguishing characteristics is that someone is comfortable in their own skin and can be authentic in a group.

How to Apply for Love Is Blind Casting in Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland, Ohio

It all starts with filling out an online form where you answer nearly 70 questions about yourself and why you are ready for capsule love.

“Kinetic expects all applicants to be honest and to evaluate and prioritize their comfort, mental health and well-being above their ability to participate in the show or appear on television,” reads a statement to potential participants on the production company’s website, which details the process and expectations.

What is the casting process for “Love is Blind” like in Ohio?

After successfully applying, candidates will participate in a phone interview that will last from 30 minutes to two hours. The next step in the process involves a virtual Zoom interview with the casting producer(s), which can last up to two hours.

“Then we’ll pitch it to our partners at Netflix and Kinetic Content. Everyone involved in the creative side of ‘Love is Blind’ is speaking out,” Driscoll said.

Depending on the candidate, the entire casting process can take three to six months.

Why are there so many questions on the Love is Blind test?

While the application is extensive (nearly 70 questions), the casting director notes that “the person of the opposite sex also devotes an equal amount of time to their application” and that the casting team reads each application.

Driscoll also encourages candidates to complete a 15-second video on the online application. While it’s optional, it allows the casting director to see why you’d want to find love in such an unorthodox way and why you think love is blind.

Next in the casting process is a compatibility questionnaire, which covers everything the candidate is looking for in a partner. “We consider compatibility when we choose the final 30 to participate in the experiment,” Driscoll said.
