Late-night TV legend David Letterman removed from cryptocurrency fraud trial: report

One of the most popular names on late-night television has reportedly been excluded from serving as a juror in New York’s upcoming cryptocurrency trial.

David Letterman, identified as “Juror 16” in the selection process, has been informed that he will not be selected to the 12-person jury in his upcoming cryptocurrency fraud trial, ABC reported.

According to reports, the TV personality joked throughout the selection process, even telling the presiding judge that the comedian lives in Hartford, Connecticut, and not New York, where the trial is taking place.

When the judge asked if Letterman had a spouse or significant other, the comedian replied:

“I’ve had both. Now I only have my husband.”

Letterman was removed from the jury list after the final round of questioning before the jury was sworn in.

While the details of the cryptocurrency scam in question have not yet been made public, a recent study by Chainalysis found that pig slaughter scams are the most common cryptocurrency scams of 2024 — and that’s no laughing matter.

“Pig slaughter is the largest revenue-generating fraud type YTD. One Myanmar-based fraud ring, first seen on-chain in 2022, has raked in at least $101.22 million this year.”
