How Amanda Gorman Prepared for Milan Fashion WeekTyler Joe

Since reciting her original poem “The Hill We Climb” at President Joe Biden’s 2021 inauguration, Amanda Gorman has been on a mission to make a difference. She’s written about the gun violence crisis in America, raised awareness of the threats to access to abortion care, and even spoke at the 2024 Democratic National Convention. Gorman’s words have an impact—and when she steps out in public, so do her sartorial choices. Memorably, she wore a canary yellow Prada coat to Biden’s inauguration that she said symbolized “a new dawn,” a nod to her poem.

Earlier this year, Gorman sat down with ELLE to talk about the importance of paring down the things that matter to her and the things she truly loves. “I’m reclaiming my ‘no,’ which is also strengthening my ‘yes.’ I wish I knew that earlier, but now I know. So the most I can do is live it in the present,” she said. So it makes sense that during Milan Fashion Week, Gorman made time to see Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons’ spring/summer 2025 collection for Prada, one of her favorite brands. “The Prada shows are so full of life and emotion,” she says. Get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at her prep below.
