We had the chance to sit down with these two rising stars to talk about their roles in the film, working alongside Halle Berry, and their favorite moments on set. In this interview, Percy and Anthony shared some touching insights into their characters and their experiences on set, including how they supported each other through some of the film’s most intense scenes.

Never Let Go Movie Trailer:

The Movie Blog: Can you talk a little about your characters?

Anthony B. Jenkins: My character, Samuel, is a very hard worker. He trusts his mother a lot. He wants to keep his family safe. He’s really a kid who loves owls.

Percy Daggs IV: Nolan is enterprising, he always wants to know everything. He always wants to do what’s best for his family. He goes. He’s willing to go the extra mile, willing to do whatever it takes. He’s the type of kid who takes action very quickly. He’s ready to get down to it right away.

Film Blog: You both seemed to have great on-screen chemistry. Did you help each other out during intense scenes?

Percy Daggs IV: I would say we support each other emotionally. Like we cut a scene and we’re still in it and we try to help each other to get out of it, maybe we tell each other jokes or something. We’ve always been there for each other, like real brothers. And that was the relationship we built while making this movie.

Anthony B. Jenkins: Working with Miss Halle is amazing. She’s such a nice and friendly person. She’s such a great actress. And she helps me. She tells me to focus and keep working. (She says) you may not book everything, but you will book some things.

Percy Daggs IV: Yes. I learned a lot from Miss Halle. (I learned) to always be focused. Always understand the job. Always understand what you have to give to the film, to the TV show… Whatever you have, whatever you have to offer, always make sure you give it your all. Then I learned a few things from the producer. I was by her side most of the time. She was very helpful. She was always there to show me how it works. She was always open to talking to us, whenever we wanted to talk about a scene or anything we needed. She was always there for us. I’m very grateful to her.

Film Blog: What was your favorite scene to shoot?

Anthony B. Jenkins: Stunt scene. Like beating people up.

Percy Daggs IV: Yeah, I love the stunt scene too. There’s another scene where I’m being pulled. I had a harness. Like I love a harness. Yeah, I love doing my own stunts. It’s really, really cool. And there’s a scene in the movie where me and Miss Halle improvise, and it was really, really cool. I got to improvise most of that scene. It was great.

The Movie Blog: What message would you like to give to fans after watching this film?

Percy Daggs IV: Always stay in touch with your family. Love is very important when it comes to family, and sometimes for some parents, the kids are right. Sometimes you have to let go and let them do their thing. And evil can come in many forms — sometimes through social media, the internet. That’s what I want people to take away.

Anthony B. Jenkins: In my opinion, I think you should take away from this that, as Percy said, sometimes children are right. But at the same time, children have to trust their parents. Parents are also usually right, and children should listen to their parents before they just follow their intuition. So yeah.
