Mayor announces Turkey Challenge 2024

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – Lake Charles Mayor Nic Hunter is challenging local businesses to help provide a Thanksgiving meal for those in need.

As part of the 2024 Mayor’s Turkey Challenge, Hunter is asking local grocery stores, food service companies, casinos and other businesses to donate to the United Way of Southwest Louisiana.

Twenty donations of $250 each, Hunter said, would be enough to provide 10 local families with a real Thanksgiving feast, including a turkey.

“A lot of people think that most politicians are turkeys, so I’m going to make the most of that stigma,” Hunter said. “In partnership with United Way of Southwest Louisiana, I’m announcing the 2024 Mayor’s Turkey Challenge in hopes of providing relief to those who need it this holiday season.”

Donations can be made by visiting //www.unitedwayswla.org/turkey or by texting the keyword TURKEY to 40403.
