Janelle Brown Ready to End Coyote Pass, But Kody Isn’t Cooperating

Thanks, I hate it

Janelle says she may need to “hit a lawyer” if she wants to completely free herself from the troublesome Coyote Pass property.

Janelle Brown is ready to move on. But her ex-husband is making it difficult. In a scene from the September 22 episode Sister Wives, Janelle shares how Kody Brown has made it nearly impossible for her to take care of her side of the troubled Coyote Pass property.

Janelle Thinks She Needs to ‘Hire a Lawyer’ to Sell Coyote Pass

In a clip from the upcoming Sister Wives In the episode shared with Us Weekly, Janelle opens up to her ex-sister, Christine Brown, about her frustrations with Coyote Pass.

Years ago, the Browns bought a large plot of land in Arizona with the idea that Kody and his four wives would have separate homes on the property. That dream never came true, and Kody’s three marriages ultimately fell apart. Now, Janelle is trying to extricate herself from a complicated real estate situation.

“If Kody doesn’t want to buy me out, I’m going to have to do something about it,” she says. “But we have to pay it off. And he’s not talking to me about it. So I think I’m going to have to hire a lawyer. Because I think that’s the only way I’m going to get any kind of decision out of him.”

“I don’t know what else I can do,” he adds.

Janelle’s situation, from Coyote Pass, is complicated because she was never legally married to Kody, with whom she had six children. As a result, she “has no legal claim to Kody’s estate,” she admits.

“It’s really complicated because there’s no legal obligation to get married,” Janelle explains in an interview.

Another problem? Kody is doing a great job of avoiding Janelle. They communicate mostly via text and haven’t discussed their relationship status in person. (Kody and Janelle announced in December 2022 that they were separating after 30 years together.)

As Janelle explains in the episode, Christine has already given away her share of Coyote Pass. But both Janelle and Kody’s other ex-wife, Meri Brown, still own a portion of the property.

“She and I both said this is the only asset we’re going to take from this marriage,” she says in another clip from the episode (via People).

Janelle thinks Kody is “crazy”

Now, a property payment is coming due. If Kody doesn’t pay it, he could lose the entire Coyote Pass. But he cuts Janelle off, leaving her uncertain about what will happen to one of her most important financial assets.

“Well, that’s what it says,” he says in the confessional. “The rest of our assets are collateral. It’s crazy to me that Kody doesn’t take this more seriously.”

Sister Wives airs Sundays at 10pm ET on TLC. Episodes can also be watched on Max.
