Sean “Diddy” Combsalleged text messages sent to several women, including his ex Cassie Venturawere read aloud during a court hearing on Wednesday, Sept. 18. Prosecutors read the messages, arguing that Combs, 54, had a “long-standing pattern of abuse.”

According to multiple sources, Assistant United States Attorney Emily A. Johnson read a text message Combs allegedly sent Ventura, 38, in 2016, shortly after he dragged and beat her in a hotel room — an incident that was captured on surveillance video and released earlier this year.

“Call me. The police are here. I have six kids,” Combs allegedly texted Cassie, according to Johnson. “Yo, please call me. I’m surrounded. Will you leave me alone?”

Johnson reportedly explained in court that Diddy’s reference to the police at the time he allegedly wrote the message was not accurate.

In response to Diddy’s message, Ventura reportedly texted him: “I have a black eye and a fat lip. You’re sick thinking it’s okay what you did,” Johnson read.

After surveillance footage of Combs abusing Ventura emerged earlier this year, he admitted in an Instagram video that he felt “disgusted” with himself.

“It’s so hard to think about the darkest moments in life,” Diddy said in the clip, which was released in May. “Sometimes you have to do it. I was done. I mean, I hit rock bottom, but I have no excuses. My behavior on that video is inexcusable. … I was disgusted when I did it, I’m disgusted now. I went and sought professional help, I went to therapy, I went to rehab. I had to ask God for His mercy and grace. I’m so sorry, but I’m committed to being a better person. Every single day.”

Combs and Ventura were in a relationship from 2007 to 2018. In late 2023, she filed a lawsuit against the rapper, alleging that she was subjected to years of sexual and physical abuse while dating Combs. Although the two quickly settled their lawsuit, multiple people have come forward with sexual assault accusations against Diddy, and federal agents have searched his homes in Miami and Los Angeles during a sex trafficking investigation.

Diddy is currently being held at MDC Hospital in Brooklyn, where he faces three charges: sex trafficking, extortion and supplying human beings for prostitution.
