Ludhiana Airport to be Renamed? Punjab CM Proposes to Rename Airport After Martyr Kartar Singh Sarabha – All You Need to Know – Airlines/Aviation News

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has reiterated his demand for naming the Ludhiana airport, also known as Halwara airport, after martyr Kartar Singh Sarabha.

The Punjab Chief Minister wrote a letter to Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu, recalling that the Punjab Assembly had unanimously passed an official resolution on March 22, 2023, requesting the Ministry of Civil Aviation to name the new international airport at the Indian Air Force Base Halwara in Ludhiana as “Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha International Airport”.

He said that the temporary terminal building of the airport is expected to be completed by the end of this month. He added that he has submitted a request to the former Union Civil Aviation Minister in this regard and that flights are expected to start from the airport by the end of the year.

CM Mann stated that since the issue was related to the emotions of Punjabis, he raised it with him personally.

He recalled that naming the airport after martyr Kartar Singh Sarabha would be a humble way of paying tribute to the legendary martyr who laid down his life for the defence of the nation. He said that Sarabha has been an inspiration to the young generations for centuries to work selflessly for their country. As an active leader of the ‘Ghadar Party’, he tirelessly strived for achieving freedom first abroad and then at home, saying that the great martyr played a key role in freeing the nation from the yoke of foreign imperialism.

Mann continued by saying that paying homage to these famous heroes by naming airports, colleges and other institutions is essential to sustaining their great legacy. He also mentioned that emulating great national leaders by naming these facilities can encourage our young people to serve their country selflessly.
