Live coverage, highlights from Week 4

The 24th-ranked Illinois Fighting Illini football team tied 17-17 in its Big Ten Conference opener against 22nd-ranked Nebraska at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The Fighting Illini are 3-0 to start the season for the first time since 2011, when they started the regular season 6-0 under Ron Zook. Illinois has home wins over Eastern Illinois, No. 19 Kansas and Central Michigan.

Behind rookie sensation Dylan Raiola, Nebraska is off to a 3-0 start to the season. The freshman quarterback is completing 59-of-80 passes (73.8%) for 670 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception to kick off his college career.

Illinois silences the crowd in Lincoln, Nebraska, as quarterback Lukasz Altmyer hits a completely open TE Tanner Arkin to tie the game at 17-17 with 1:55 minutes left in the third quarter.

Runner from Illinois Josh McCray made an incredibly difficult one-handed catch look easy by taking a third-and-7 out pass and catching it with his outside left hand and stumbling for a near first down. Illinois tried the play and got the ball.

Illinois, Nebraska trade points early in the half

The first two possessions after the break ended with the first punts of the game for Illinois and Nebraska. The second punt return by Illinois Hank Beatty for 37 yards, intercepted by Nebraska punter Brian Buschini who defended what could have been a TD return.

Nebraska appeared to have scored a 50-50 touchdown in the second quarter to take a 17-10 lead over the Illinois football team on Friday night, but the Fighting Illini quarterback Torrie Cox Jr. ended with interception after review.

The defense dominated the second quarter of this Big Ten opener — but Nebraska did manage one late drive. Isaiah Neyor He scored his second touchdown of the game with 16 seconds left in the second half, making a great catch while shuffling to complete the catch.

Interception for Illinois defender Torrie Cox was the Illini’s seventh of the season — matching the team’s total for the entire 2023 season, according to the Illini Inquirer Joey Wagner.

Corner defender Torrie Cox He made an incredible interception in the Nebraska end zone, almost breaking away to be caught by a Huskers receiver Isaiah NeyorInitially, officials ruled the catch a touchdown, but after further review, they ruled the Illini had the ball and awarded a touchback.

400th sold-out Nebraska football game

Illinois vs. Nebraska was the 400th consecutive sold-out game in the history of Memorial Stadium in Lincoln. Attendance for this landmark game was 86,936.

Illinois should feel lucky to have limited Nebraska to a field goal after the quarterback Dylan Raiola had the Huskers with a first-and-goal from the 5 after an 18-play drive. Nebraska kicker Jan Hohlfinished the play with a 21-yard field goal. The Huskers’ regular kicker Tristan Alvano is unavailable.

Illinois’ Kaleb Patterson has a great offense

Illini cornerback Caleb Patterson made an incredible tackle to set up a third-and-7 situation, fighting with a defender — who committed a foul on the play — trying to keep a Nebraska player in his backcourt.

Pat Bryant runs in for a 27-yard touchdown with 11:54 left in the first quarter and the Illini strike first. Bryant, who already has five touchdowns this season, had a big third-and-one catch earlier in the game.

The Big Ten Conference availability report lists six players out, four from Illinois and two from Nebraska. Two others are listed as questionable.
