Sculpture Park announces the winning name of the competition

Reported by San Juan Island Sculpture Parl

All summer long, Sculpture Park has been collecting ideas for names for its newest permanent installation, a long-necked dinosaur created by artist Joe Treat. In June and July, the public and visitors were asked to submit ideas for names for this prehistoric wonder. A whopping 120 names were submitted via the Park’s website! In August, the public was invited to vote on their favorite name choice. Another 120 votes were cast for the winning name, “Roche Ness Monster!”

The Roche Ness Monster was created by artist Joe Treat, who builds life-size creatures from driftwood. Visit the Roche Ness Monster, two other Joe Treat creations, and over 150 other unique sculptures in person at Sculpture Park or on our website at sjisculpturepark.com. This newest addition is located near the fence along Roche Harbor Road, near the entrance sign.

The 20-acre park is dog-friendly, has five trails and offers interactive exhibits for both children and adults. The park is open year-round from dawn to dusk. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.
