Benin City, Edo State – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced an extension of voting time in areas where voting began at the end of the 2024 Edo governorship election.

Legit.ng reports that voting at polling stations in Edo was originally scheduled to end at 2:00 p.m. However, the commission — in a new update — revealed that the process “will continue until the last voter in line who arrived at the polling station by 2:30 p.m. casts his vote.”

The INEC statement reads as follows:

“Our monitoring indicates early voting starts in many polling stations, but there are also reports of late voting starts in some locations.

“To ensure that no voter is disenfranchised, the Commission would like to emphasise that, in accordance with our rules and guidelines, polling will be extended wherever it has started later and will continue until the last voter in line who arrives at the polling station by 2.30pm has cast their vote.

“We have, therefore, drawn the attention of our office in Edo State to ensure that adequate power supply from our backup electrical generators will be provided to the affected polling units or constituency polling centres if required.”
