Russian official reveals Putin does not support Kamala Harris

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergei Lavrov revealed that the president Vladimir Putin he was only joking when he supported Kamala Harris in the upcoming elections.

Earlier this month, Putin addressed the public at an economic forum in Russia, where he said Russia had endorsed Harris in the November race, citing her “contagious laugh.” Putin also said he believed Harris would lift sanctions imposed on her during the war in Ukraine.

“I told you that our favorite, if I may say so, is the current president, Mr. Biden,” Putin said, smiling. “He was removed from the race, but he advised all his supporters to support Ms. Harris. So we will do that too, we will root for her,” he said, to applause from the audience.

“Secondly, he has such an expressive and contagious laugh that it means he is doing well,” Putin added.

However, Lavrov explained in an interview with Sky News Arabia on Friday that Putin’s comments showed his “good sense of humor.” Putin had previously suggested he would support Biden over Trump because he was a more “predictable” candidate.

“I don’t see any long-term differences in our approach to the current and previous elections in the United States, because they are governed by the infamous ‘deep state,'” Lavrov concluded.

Following the false endorsement, Harris’ campaign released a statement rejecting support for the Russian president, calling him a dictator.

“I think everyone knows who dictators and tyrants around the world prefer in this election: they prefer President Trump,” Harris spokesman Ian Sams told CNN. “We reject the kind of divisive, dictatorial leadership offered by people like President Putin. Putin’s invasion of Ukraine was horrible, and VPOTUS was a leader, along with POTUS, in uniting the world against it.”
