Philadelphia Eagles vs. New Orleans Saints Odds, Predictions, Tips

Philadelphia has been all over the world to start the current campaign. The Eagles’ early season schedule called for them to open in São Paulo, then host a game, then fly to New Orleans and Tampa Bay. While Nick Sirianni’s players will be racking up the miles, the travel hasn’t translated into early results after a 1-1 start.

New Orleans didn’t have to go far, with two home games and a quick trip to Dallas in the first three weeks. The Saints were the biggest surprise so far, as they lead the NFL in points scored (91) and point differential (+62). A win over Philadelphia and the city of New Orleans would really get them going.

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Saints are 2.5-point favorites with over/under odds of 49.5.

Let’s take a closer look at the chances for this highly anticipated clash:

Philadelphia Eagles vs. New Orleans Saints

Time/TV: South CT (Fox)

Spread (according to FanDuel Sportsbook): Saints -2.5

Total: 49.5

Money line: Saints -152, Eagles +128

Analysis: Full disclosure, I’ve tried to find every reason not to bet Philly here. Last week I backed New Orleans on the road and was treated to one of the most dynamic-looking offenses in recent memory.

My opinion of the Saints has completely changed in the span of three weeks. Klint Kubiak and the players deserve all the credit for their hard work. The former has found ways to put his talented players in positions to succeed, which is refreshing after last season’s struggles.

Still, I can’t blame the Eagles on this one.

The line jumped from Philadelphia -3 to New Orleans -2.5 in a matter of days. It’s the most inexplicable and reactionary swing in the odds I can remember, short of an injury to a star quarterback.

The Eagles battled to beat the Atlanta Falcons in a final loss in Week 2, and there were a few surprising decisions made late in the game. AJ Brown was out and is unlikely to play in Week 3, but Kellen Moore’s offense has plenty of other weapons that could cause trouble for the Saints, including Jalen Hurts, who will keep Dennis Allen up at night this week.

Mobile quarterbacks are Allen’s kryptonite. That factor, combined with the inexplicable line change, has me leaning toward Philadelphia in this contest. I’ll ignore public opinion and bet the Eagles will cover a small spread. However, if the home team wins this contest, the NFC should be on high alert.

Forecast: Eagles 31, Saints 27 (over 49.5)

Best bet: Eagles +2.5 over Saints (-104 at FanDuel Sportsbook)
