The Spartans are looking to go 4-0 for the first time since 2021 in their first season under new coach Jonathan Smith, who is coached by 19-year-old sophomore point guard Aidan Chiles, who joins Smith from Oregon State.

MSU impressed with a decisive 27-24 victory over Maryland in its Big Ten opener and a decisive 40-0 victory over underdog Prairie View A&M, but now it faces a challenge in the form of Boston College and its starting point guard Thomas Castellanos.

The Spartans are missing four receivers, including freshman Nick Marsh, who stole the show against the Terrapins. Players Jaron Glover and Antonio Gates Jr. are also sidelined, joining Alante Brown, who suffered a serious injury in the opener against Florida Atlantic. The Spartans are also plagued by injuries to their offensive line, so running back Nate Carter could face a tough slog as MSU tries to set the tone on offense.

MSU is a 4½-point underdog heading into last week’s game against BC (2-1), which lost 27-21 to then-eighth-ranked Missouri.
