A 38-year-old software engineer allegedly died by suicide at his home in Chennai. The victim, identified as Karthikeyan was suffering from depression. According to police, Karthikeyan electrocuted himself and his body was found tangled in a live wire by his wife on Thursday. He was alone in the house at the time of the incident.

Originally from Theni district in Tamil Nadu, Karthikeyan lived in Chennai with his wife and two children, aged 10 and eight years.

According to a YOU report, police said Karthikeyan had earlier complained of being upset due to work pressure and was undergoing treatment for depression for two months.

Karthikeyan’s wife had left for Thirunallur temple, about 300 km from Chennai, on Monday and dropped off the children at her mother’s place. She returned home on Thursday night and knocked, but got no response. She used a spare key to enter the house and found Karthikeyan lying unresponsive with a live wire wrapped around his body.

A case of unnatural death has been registered and a probe is on.

The techie’s death by suicide, allegedly due to depression over work pressure comes amid outrage across the country over the death of a 26-year-old chartered accountant with Ernst & Young (E&Y) allegedly due to stress in the workplace.

The company expressed deep sorrow over the “irreparable loss” of the young employee and emphasized that they “assisted the family during this tragic time”.
