Stree 2 Star Abhishek Banerjee Admits He Paid PR After Film’s Release: ‘Thode Paise Kharch Kiye…’

Abhishek Banerjee is still reeling in the praise for his performance in Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Stree 2. In a recent chat, he admitted that he paid PRs to circulate good articles about him but his praise also happened organically as fans loved his performance. He made this admission while talking about the drawbacks of PR activity.

Speaking about the problem of doing PR, Abhishek told IDiva, “Problem yeh hai PR ki ki agar organic news bhi aayegi, toh bhi logo ko lagta hai ki PR hai. Kisi ne accha likh diya tumhare baare main and you’re feeling good and ki organically aaya hai. But then everybody will think, ‘Oh isne PR karaya hai.’ That’s a drawback. It happened to me as well.”

“Paatal Lok ke time hua, Stree 2 ke time hua. Maine socha tha ki main paise kharch karoonga PR main aur yeh sab karoonga. Thode bohot kiye bhi but usse zyada hi PR ho gaya because of the audience. They started sharing photos, videos, memes and stories. Then I realized ki chaahe kitna bhi shor macha lo, once they are doing it organically, that’s the real PR. But voh organic PR bhi logo ko paid PR lagti hai,” he added.

The ‘PR Narrative’ around Stree 2 gained momentum when a ‘credit war’ broke out between Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao online after the film’s success. Back then, Abhishek had said that the film belongs to everyone. Abhishek mentioned that the beauty of Stree 2 is that it belongs to everyone and everything else is unfortunate noise.

Abhishek Banerjee told Zoom TV, “I don’t understand PR. I don’t understand the kind of conversations that happen on social media. Whenever something is successful, there will always be some negative points. Kuch toh negativity chahiye logo ko jisse voh baat karein, cheezon ko bada banaye. We don’t focus on these things.”

“Jab humne shuru kiya tha, hume kisi ne nahi bola tha ki film iski hai ya uski hai. Jab humne film sign ki thi. Aapne khud hi dekha hoga bohot baar logo ne bola hai ki Jana ki entry pe log sabse zyada taaliyan bajate hain. Itne bade stars ke beech main kya hai Jana? Yeh film ensemble cast ki film hai. Yeh sabki film hai and that is the beauty of the film jo kisi shor ya comparison se change nahi hoga,” he had said.
