British rock band Coldplay on Sunday (September 22, 2024) added a third concert to Mumbai as part of their Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025, citing “phenomenal demand”, hours after fans expressed disappointment over long virtual queues on online ticketing platform BookMyShow.

Tickets for the new show, scheduled to take place on January 21 at the DY Patil Sports Stadium in Mumbai, will go on sale from 2 pm onwards on BookMyShow.

“Due to phenomenal demand, a third date has been added in Mumbai at DY Patil Stadium on January 21, 2025. Tickets on sale from 2PM IST today,” Coldplay said in a post by X, alongside a booking link.

According to reports, the server of the BookMyShow website and app crashed on Sunday as ticket sales for the British band’s concerts scheduled for next year began.

Soon, the hashtags “Coldplay”, “BookMyShow”, and “Crashed” became popular on X.

Coldplay has already announced two concerts that will take place on January 18 and 19, 2025 at the DY Patil Sports Stadium.

Many fans shared screenshots of their frozen computer and smartphone screens as the app was under a lot of load at the time.

According to BookMyShow, the ticket sales for the two shows on January 18 and 19, 2025, at the DY Patil Sports Stadium in Mumbai were supposed to begin at 12:00 PM. Many reported that tickets were unavailable for booking even after 12:15 PM.

According to the platform’s website, ticket prices range from Rs 2,500 to Rs 12,500, while entry to the lounge costs Rs 35,000.

In less than an hour, the server was back online and BookMyShow was displaying a “high traffic” message on every account trying to book a ticket, and the waiting list had grown to 842,745 people (as of 1:39 p.m. on BookMyShow’s website).

“Due to high traffic, the queue is moving slower than expected. Thank you for your patience!” the message on the platform read.

A few helpful fans suggested that others wait to refresh the page.

“If you’re in line for Coldplay tickets and it’s slow, refresh your page. It’ll be faster #Coldplay #BookMyShow (sic),” user X said.

Another claims that other platforms are selling Coldplay concert tickets at inflated prices.

“Dear @coldplay, fans in India are struggling to get tickets for @Bookmyshow_live as there are over 300k people on the waiting list but platforms like Viagogo (Google coldplay india tickets, first sponsored link is VIAGOGO) are selling them at inflated prices. #coldplayindia #BookMyShow (sic),” the user wrote.

“Every time Indians try to book tickets for Coldplay and other major events on bookmyshow! We crashed again! #bookmyshow #Coldplay (sic),” wrote another.

“Bookmyshow server should be: Sir mai kaam hi nahi karta kuch! #BookMyShow #Coldplay (sic),” a user joked on X.

The Mumbai concert will be Coldplay’s first visit to India in eight years.

The Grammy Award-winning band previously performed in Mumbai as part of the Global Citizen Festival in 2016.

The Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 will kick off on October 30 at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia and conclude on August 31, 2025 with a concert at Wembley Stadium in London, UK.
