‘SNL’ Adds 3 New Writers for Season 50

Saturday Night LiveThe 50th season premiere is just over a week away, and following last week’s reports of three new performers being added to the cast, the show has also expanded its writing staff in time for its milestone anniversary season. Ahead of its September 28 premiere, Vulture can confirm that Allie Levitan, Moss Perricone, and Carl Tart have joined the show as writers.

Levitan is an actor, writer and comedian whose first job was writing scripts for Showtime Our Cartoon President from 2019 to 2020. Her short film, Flailwas officially selected for the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, and in May it was announced that she had co-written Molly Gordon’s upcoming directorial debut, Small parts. (She is also the daughter of Modern family (Co-creator Steve Levitan.) Perricone is a comedian and writer who has worked on Patriot Act with Hasan Minhajthis Beavis and Butt Head restart, The other twoAND VelmaTart is an actor, writer and improviser who starred in two seasons of the NBC series Big crew and wrote for programs such as Kenan, Brooklyn Nine-Nineand MAD TV reboot. Tart is also a beloved figure in the comedy and podcast world, known for frequent appearances on shows like Comedy Bang! Bang! (often next to SNL(ego Nwodim) and Boys from the cake as well as his own podcasts, Glaring AND XOXO, Gossip Kings.

Along with these additions, two writers from last season will not be returning: Alex English, who revealed on Instagram on August 28 that he was not being asked back after three seasons on the show; and Vannessa Jackson, a writer from season 49. The writing staff will also remain largely the same. Alison Gates, Streeter Seidell, and Kent Sublette will serve as co-head writers for the fourth season together (Sublette has held that title since season 42). Dan Bulla and Auguste White will join Gary Richardson, Will Stephen, and Celeste Yim as writing supervisors.
