Patrick Flueger Thinks Ruzek’s Wedding on Chicago PD Will Be ‘Imposed’

Patrick Fluger still has no idea about it Chicago Policeplans for Adam Ruzek and Kim Burgess’s Season 12 wedding — but she already has some ideas about what could happen.

“It’s not our style to have (a wedding),” Flueger, who plays Ruzek, said in an exclusive interview Us Weekly while promoting Season 12, which premieres Wednesday, September 25. “I don’t know how to squeeze that into our show. It seems like it’s probably going to be more implied than something you’d see on screen.”

Flueger, 40, explained that he “spiced up” the showrunner Gwen Sigan with “a few questions” at the beginning of filming, but did not reveal her plans for the couple. (Ruzek proposed for the third time to Burgess, played by Marina Squerciatiin season 11.)

“This case is the star of the show. I don’t know how to squeeze it in. I don’t even know if I want it to be too big of a deal,” Flueger said, noting that his character wouldn’t want a big deal.

Before the third appearance of Ruzek and Burgess — affectionately known to fans as “Burek,” LaRoyce Hawkins only told Us that he would happily marry the couple on TV. Hawkins, 36, plays Kevin Atwater, Ruzek’s best friend and Burgess’ former patrol partner before they both joined the Intelligence Unit.

“I have the authority to perform marriages,” Hawkins said. Us in June 2023, noting that he has performed several weddings in his family. “I consider Burgess and Ruzek family, and I think Atwater should have the first right to refuse to actually marry (them). That’s what we want to see.”

Flueger said Us earlier this month that he was open to the idea of ​​Atwater becoming Ruzek and Burgess’ officiant. “It would be perfect. It couldn’t be better than him doing it,” Flueger said, noting that he believes there will be “montages” of glimpses of the wedding rather than a full scene about it. “You would see the events and that’s how it would unfold. You wouldn’t be at the wedding with the characters.”

While Flueger isn’t sure how the writers will celebrate Ruzek’s final marriage, he is confident the couple will be happy by third time.

“Marina and I, you know, we’re so close in real life that I think we’re kind of like, ‘OK, let’s not play this game anymore. Let’s just do this. People can be happy on TV,'” he revealed, pointing out that viewers don’t always have to “watch a will-they-or-won’t-they relationship.”

Aside from the Season 12 wedding that Sigan previously mentioned, Flueger said Us that the new season will start with a bang.

“Voight (played by Jason Beghe) is very much influenced by Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) leaving,” he joked, noting that Voight was “knocking on death’s door” during the Season 11 finale, which shocked him. (At the end of the season, Voight was kidnapped by a serial killer, and Upton barely managed to save his life before leaving Chicago for a new adventure.)

Flueger continued, “It really sets the direction for him where, when we start… he’s moving faster than all of us can keep up.” He added, “I’m really proud of the first two episodes. I think viewers are going to be really excited.”
