Demi Moore stepped into the new role that everyone is talking about. Substanceactress is seen in a completely different light, as the film is a satirical body horror that depicts the pressures of societal body standards in graphic detail. Ahead of the film’s release, Demi spoke about her role, noting that “nothing like this has ever crossed (her) path.”

While talking to DeadlineDemi explained that the film is “so extraordinary, it has such a level of risk and uncertainty that it could either be amazing or fucking disastrous.”

“That made it worth jumping in,” he said. A few good people star said. “As a role, it was clearly pushing me outside of my comfort zone, and I felt like it touched on the subject of dealing not only with aging and this kind of male perspective of the idealized woman that women have been led to believe in, but also this struggle that goes on within ourselves, this intense, harsh judgment that we live with, this striving for perfection that doesn’t exist.”

What is The Substance about?

According to the official synopsis, Substance is about a “fading celebrity (who) decides to use a black market drug, a cell-replicating substance that temporarily creates a younger, better version of herself.” Demi plays the lead character, Elisabeth Sparkle.

Elisabeth is fired from her famous aerobics TV series after turning 50. She is then given a tip on a serum that creates a younger and “perfect” version of the user. This younger version of Elisabeth is then born, who takes the name Sue (played by actress Margaret Qualley).
