Ahead of Wednesday’s Netflix premiere Mr. McMahon In the documentary, former WWE chairman Vince McMahon issued a statement criticizing the project, claiming it was not entirely based on facts.

McMahon wrote that the documentary “is insufficient and follows the predictable path of merging the ‘Mr. McMahon’ character with my real self, Vince.”

Netflix announced that Mr. McMahon The documentary “explores McMahon’s transformation of WWE from a small, regional business into a global entertainment powerhouse and the explosive sexual harassment allegations that led to his eventual resignation.” The company released a trailer earlier this month, giving fans a taste of an in-depth look at the 79-year-old’s life and career:

Director Chris Smith told Netflix that the documentary’s production was influenced by lawsuit a lawsuit filed by Janel Grant earlier this year accusing McMahon of sexual harassment and human trafficking, which led to a federal investigation.

“Over the course of four years in production, the story evolved in truly shocking ways, culminating in some incredibly harrowing allegations,” Smith said. “The final product is a revealing documentary that we believe offers a rich and nuanced portrait of the man and the complex legacy he left behind.”

McMahon disputed these notions in his statement, writing, “Much has been misrepresented or omitted entirely in an effort to intentionally confuse viewers.” He added, “The producers are using a lawsuit based on an affair I ended as evidence that I am, in fact, ‘Mr. McMahon.'”

In addition to McMahon’s participation in the documentary, producers interviewed such WWE legends as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, John Cena, Paul “Triple H” Levesque and others. All six episodes Mr. McMahon will be released on Netflix on Wednesday.
