People living near Ford Amphitheater are considering moving because of the noise

COLORADO SPRINGS — Local real estate agents say some residents near the Ford Amphitheater are considering moving because they say the area is too loud.

Others, however, say they want to move to the area because of the amphitheater.

For many people, live music reminds them of the good old days. But for some, like Steven Kjonaas, who lives two miles from the amphitheater, it wasn’t a pleasant experience.

“From this position here, I can hear through the windows right behind me,” Kjonaas said. “This is definitely not music. It’s nothing you’d like.”

Especially if you suffer from a condition like tinnitus, commonly described as a ringing sound.

“It’s something that disrupts your thinking process and prevents you from relaxing. There’s no relaxation,” Kjonaas said.

Local estate agent Darren Williams has handed out more than 500 leaflets in the past two weeks in an attempt to cash in on the controversy.

“If you don’t like music, just put in earplugs,” Williams said.

Williams’ partner, Jamie Krakofsy, says some want to move away from the amphitheater, while others say they would like to move closer to it.

“We have a client that we met (this) last weekend. He wants to sell his house in (another) area and move closer,” Krakofsy said.

Ford Amphitheater invites community members to an open house on October 5 to learn more about the venue and share concerns.
