Argentine President Javier Milei, in his first speech to the UN General Assembly, slammed the organization, saying it had “transformed itself into a Leviathan with many tentacles that intends to decide not only what each nation state should do, but also how all citizens of the world should live.”

He added: “This is how we went from an organization striving for peace to an organization imposing an ideological agenda on its members,” Reuters reports.

He went on to criticize the world body’s latest proposal, calling its “Pact for the Future” “twisted” and saying the policy was “the wrong direction” that should be followed.

“The adoption of this programme is fully in line with these privileged interests and goes beyond the principles set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and therefore distorts the role of this organisation and directs it in the wrong direction,” Milei said in his passionate speech.

Milei accused the UN of becoming “one of the main supporters of systemic violations of freedom,” citing the organization’s support for COVID-related lockdowns and allowing “bloody dictatorships” like Venezuela to sit on the Human Rights Council “without reproach.”

“For this reason, I would like to officially express our opposition to the pact for the future that was signed on Sunday, and I invite all the nations of the free world to support us, not only in the UN in connection with this pact, but also in establishing a new agenda for this noble institution, which is the agenda for freedom,” Milei said.

“As the Pact for the Future claims, this long list of errors and contradictions has led to a loss of credibility for the United Nations in the eyes of the citizens of the free world,” Milei said. “I would like to warn that we are approaching the end of a cycle: collectivism, moral posturing, and the woke agenda are colliding with reality. There are no longer credible solutions to the real problems of the world.”

The Pact for the Future was the centerpiece of the Summit for the Future, which kicked off the UN General Assembly’s high-level week this week. The Pact is the culmination of policies and mission statements issued by UN Secretary-General António Guterres over the past few years.

The pact aims to expand the scope and focus of the UN and its members to deal with “global shocks” such as “disruptions in the global flow of goods, people or finances.”

Milei compared the new rules, which he said were an overreach of the organization’s authority, to the original mission and achievements of the UN, and then slammed the celebrations of countries that “punish their women just for showing their bodies in the same house that voted against the State of Israel, which is the only country in the Middle East defending liberal democracy.”

Returning Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon praised Milei’s challenge to the General Assembly and the Guterres Pact, calling Milei “a true friend of the State of Israel.”

“In this hall where Israel was slandered all day, you showed courage and supported Israel!”

Milei insisted that if the current plan fails, UN members must ask themselves “whether this was a poorly conceived program from the start.”

“We should accept this reality and change what we do,” he argued. “The same thing always happens with ideas coming from the left… When individuals voluntarily decide to act differently, they have no better solution than to limit, suppress or cut off their freedom.”

“In Argentina, we saw with our own eyes what they did at the end of this path of jealousy and sad passion: poverty, anarchy and a total lack of freedom,” Milei said. “We still have time to choose another direction.”

Milei concluded with his oft-repeated slogan: “Long live freedom, damn it! Thank you very much.”
