Yana Dee celebrates 10 years of sustainable fashion in downtown Traverse City – 9&10 News

TRAVERSE CITY — Clothing designer Yana Dee Powers is celebrating a full decade of her storefront in downtown Traverse City.

The store, at 157 E. Front St., is pioneered by Powers who has been a Michigan-based clothing designer and maker for 20 years.

To celebrate the store’s 10th anniversary, Yana Dee is holding a sale Oct. 1-10. Shoppers can also peruse limited-time offers in person.

Powers has consistently built her business from the ground up while holding herself to a standard of sustainability.

“Her creations are made from natural, organic, and salvaged materials,” a Sept. 25 news release said. “For the first 10 years in business, Yana shared her wearable works of art as a vendor at art shows and music festivals, and online as a seller on Etsy. She also distributed her creations as a wholesale vendor to regional boutiques, including Ella’s in Traverse City and Clothing Matters in Grand Rapids.”

When a small storefront in the heart of downtown Traverse City became available for rent in the late summer of 2014, Powers knew it was time to take the leap and open up her own boutique.

The racks were sparse at first, but interest in her products was abundant. Having developed a regional following of fans, many familiar faces came to support Yana and it was easy for new customers to find her clothing too.

10 Years later, Yana Dee is still providing locals and visitors with a distinctive shopping experience. Yana has expanded her designs to include more sizes & styles than ever before.

“What began as a one-woman operation is now a team of 7, including Yana, her sister Abby Rose, their mom and 4 additional part-time sales and sewing staff,” the release said.
