Upstate Greenville businesses are announcing closures

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster declared a state of emergency on Wednesday in preparation for Hurricane Helene.

Many businesses, libraries and government offices are closing, and upstate festivals and events have been postponed. Local authorities are advising residents to stay home and avoid unnecessary travel until the storm subsides.

Here is a list of closed and postponed events across the Upstate.

Greenville County

–The City of Greenville Department of Sanitation announced Friday’s school schedule will resume as normal. However, residents are advised to stay updated on any changes due to Hurricane Helene.

–All Greenville County libraries will close on Thursday at 6 p.m. and remain closed on Friday, September 27, due to expected severe weather associated with Hurricane Helene.

–Zo Greenville is closed on Thursday and Friday. The animals are safe, dry and indoors.

–After-school activities at the Greenville Community Center, youth soccer and pickleball leagues, and all events at the Prisma Health Welcome Center at Unity Park are canceled.

— The Champion Comfort Expert Moonlight film screening at Falls Park is canceled Thursday evening.

–Due to the forecast of hazardous weather and road conditions, Meals on Wheels of Greenville will not be delivering meals on Friday, September 27. According to the staff at Meals on Wheels of Greenville, the frozen meals were delivered on Wednesday and they will be taking care of our customers throughout the weekend. –Due to severe weather forecast, all Pickens County offices, including the landfill, will open at noon. on Friday, September 27. Recycling centers will be closed throughout Friday and will return to normal operating hours on Saturday. The delay ensures the safety of staff and the public by helping to prevent travel in potentially unsafe conditions.

–Greenlink will run with a two-hour delay, with service starting at 7:30 a.m. to allow drivers to benefit from daylight, which improves visibility and prevents accidents.

Spartanburg County

Despite the storm, Spartanburg County officials announced that garbage collection services will continue as scheduled on Friday, September 27.

–Love Me Some Lace, located at 155 E Broad St. in Spartanburg, will be closed on Thursday and Friday, September 27, due to the approaching storm.

–All Spartanburg County library locations will be closed on Thursday, September 26 at 5:00 p.m. due to weather conditions.

–All Little River Coffee locations will have a delayed opening at 9 a.m

–Sugah Cakes (551 E. Main St) is closed on Friday.

City of Mauldin

According to Lauren Carter, communications manager for the City of Mauldin, in light of the severe weather conditions in the Upstate area and in the interest of the safety of city employees and the public, the following changes are being made to city operations.

  • Garbage collection on Friday, September 27 is canceled. Makeup Day will take place on Monday, September 30.
  • – All Mauldin Recreation sports programs are canceled for the afternoon/evening of Thursday, September 26.
  • – Mauldin Sports Center will close on Thursday, September 26 at 8:00 p.m.
  • – City offices, including City Hall, Mauldin Sports Center, Ray W. Hopkins Mauldin Senior Center and Mauldin Community Center, will open on Friday, September 27 at 11:00 a.m.
  • – Mighty Kicks is still scheduled to perform at the Mauldin Cultural Center on Friday evening. Any updates will be posted on the Mauldin Cultural Center Facebook page.

Anderson’s city

–According to the city of Anderson, Anderson Sanitation services will be delayed two hours on Friday, Sept. 28 due to severe weather warnings. Please plan accordingly.

According to Denver Downs owner Catherine Garrison Davis, they will be closed on Friday, September 27 due to forecast rain and dangerous winds. They will be open for fall fun and activities on Saturday, September 28, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and on Sunday, September 29, from noon to 6 p.m.

–Due to severe weather from Hurricane Helene, Anderson County Meals on Wheels announced it will temporarily suspend services on Friday, September 27.

–Jo Brown Senior Citizen Center in Anderson will be closed on Friday, September 27 due to expected severe weather due to Hurricane Helene.

–Seniors who usually use the center’s services are advised to use alternative solutions. For more information, contact the center directly at 864-231-2237.

City of Clemson

According to the city of Clemson, all city parks will be closed on Thursday at 5 p.m. Waste collection for city center businesses will be moved to Saturday morning, September 28.

–CAT bus routes have been modified due to Hurricane Helene. The last bus of the night will depart downtown Clemson on the Red-Central Route at 11:15 p.m. Red-Clemson at 11:24 p.m. and Highpoint-Pier at 11:15 p.m.

—According to Clemson University. Tigerama, originally scheduled for Friday, September 27, has been postponed due to forecast inclement weather and out of an abundance of caution related to the organization of the event and travel considerations for performers and guests.

–Tigerama will take place on Friday, October 18 at 7:00 p.m. at the Memorial Stadium. The X Ambassadors performance is still scheduled after the event, and all ticket purchases will be honored on October 18. Ticket information can be found on the Tigerama website.

— Construction of the Central Spirit and Habitat for Humanity float at Bowman Field will continue, weather permitting.
