The soundtrack is available now digitally and pre-orders are available in vinyl/CD formats. Additionally, the original will be available for pre-order on vinyl and CD Joker results Live! with Murray Franklin.

Joker: Folie à Deux (score from the original film soundtrack) reunites composer Hildur Guðnadóttir with writer, director and producer Todd Phillips after their collaboration on the latter’s 2019 blockbuster Joker, which grossed over $1 billion at the worldwide box office and an Oscar, Golden Globe, Grammy and BAFTA for Guðnadóttir. For Phillips, the decision was to bring her back to compose music Joker: Folie à Deux it was easy. He had this to say: “There wasn’t a version of this movie where we didn’t call on Hildur to do the music. I think her music is basically the second most important character in the first movie.

Joaquin Phoenix, who plays Arthur Fleck, reflects on the influence of Guðnadóttir’s music on his performance, noting: “Hildur’s music played a huge role in the first film and also developed certain parts of the character. I think I found this character by listening to her music on set while shooting the movie. It’s a really special feeling every time something comes to life this way and you have to capture it on film. From that moment on, I felt that Hildur’s character and music were closely linked.”

For her part, Guðnadóttir was excited about the new challenges the film presented. Arthur’s theme took on a new role and to capture this, she invented a new instrument. “Arthur’s theme is like a sonic thread that runs through many different scenes, trying to find its place, just as Arthur goes through this film. He tries to find his place between reality and fantasy, Arthur and the Joker, fall in love or be deceived. The sound world we had before (na Joker) it was very string-based and I started imagining Arthur in prison and how I could bring this sound world into the prison, really make this confined space out of strings. I worked with instrument makers from Iceland to help me build what I call a string prison, which consisted of very long strings strung through the space that formed the prison. I used the trench cello to play the string prison where Arthur is held captive by the sound of the strings, and I brought that sense of joy to the claustrophobia of this terrifying situation.
