Jaguars owner, former mayor of Jacksonville and TU columnist aiming to mitigate Wolfson’s benefits

Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan, Flagler College President John Delaney and Florida Times-Union columnist Mark Woods will serve as moderators for the 2024-2025 Florida Forum Speaker Series, a fundraiser for Wolfson Children’s Hospital.

According to the all-volunteer Wolfson Women’s Commission, which organizes the series, the trio will “facilitate thought-provoking and engaging discussions.”

Delaney will moderate the show on October 29 alongside Boris Johnson, former British prime minister and journalist and author. Both men are former mayors – Delaney led Jacksonville from 1995 to 2003, Johnson led London from 2008 to 2016.

Flagler College President John Delaney

Johnson resigned as prime minister in 2022 after three years in office and a series of scandals. He previously served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and is the author of several books. His memoir “Unleashed” will be released on October 15.

Delaney was president of the University of North Florida at Jacksonville from 2003 to 2018. In 2021, he was named president of Flagler College in St. Augustine.

Pakistani-American billionaire Khan will co-host the January 15 event with Deepak Chopra, an Indian-American physician, author and pioneer of integrative medicine and personal transformation.

Copra founded The Chopra Foundation, a non-profit organization researching well-being and humanitarianism, and Chopra Global, a health care company. He is also a clinical professor of family medicine and public health at the University of California, San Diego and a senior research fellow at the Gallup Organization.

His 95th book, Digital Dharma: How Artificial Intelligence Can Raise Spiritual Intelligence and Well-Being, was published on September 17.

Khan purchased the Jaguars NFL team in 2011 and has since become a developer focusing on downtown Jacksonville. He also owns Fulham Football Club in England and Flex-N-Gate, an Illinois-based company that supplies a variety of motor vehicle parts. He and his son are co-owners of the American wrestling organization All Elite Wrestling.

Woods will moderate the Feb. 12 session with Carl Hiaasen, a Miami Herald columnist for 45 years who is retiring in 2021. He is also the author of 11 national bestsellers, several novels for young readers and nonfiction that has appeared in numerous magazines.

Mark Woods

Since 2001, Woods has been a columnist for The Florida Times-Union. He previously was a sports writer for newspapers in Florida, Kentucky, Missouri and Indiana. He is the author of “Lassoing the Sun: A Year in America’s National Parks.”

Through its annual speaker series, Wolfson raised $1.5 million, including to purchase two new mobile intensive care units.

The 2024-25 events will be held at the Jacksonville Center for the Performing Arts at 7 p.m. Ticket prices start at $150 each. To purchase tickets, visit Give.baptistjax.com/event/2024-2025-florida-forum/e589381, call (904) 2022886 or email [email protected].
