Kate Winslet reveals the tragic reasons why she missed the premiere of “Titanic”.

Kate Winslet had a painful reason why she missed the biggest movie premiere of her career.

The English actress gained international fame for her role in the 1997 hit film Titanic, alongside Leonardo DiCaprio.

The film was a fictional story about the sinking of a luxury cruise ship Titanic was scheduled to sail from Southampton, England, to New York. However, it hit an iceberg in the Atlantic Ocean.

However, Winslet missed the red carpet at the film’s London and Los Angeles premieres because she had to attend her ex-boyfriend’s funeral; then, in a separate incident, the actress was hospitalized.

“When it premiered in London I was feeling really bad, I had terrible food poisoning and I was actually in hospital in London. It was completely weird,” Winslet told Josh Horowitz on a recent episode of his podcast Happy Sad Confused.

“And when the movie came out in the US, I attended my boyfriend’s funeral,” she added.

Winslet dated actor and writer Stephen Tredre for five years until 1995. He died of cancer in 1997 at the age of 34.

“I mean, it’s a terrible thing to even think about right now and obviously I wasn’t going to miss it,” Winslet said. “So I kind of missed everything about the release Titanicwhat I don’t know – is this the universe’s way of protecting me from something, or is it just reminding me to do things that matter?”

The Oscar winner was warned not to miss the film’s premiere Titanicespecially in the US because of the impact it could have on her career, but Winslet has already made up her mind.

“I suppose I was a little depressed about it,” Winslet told a British newspaper Guardian in 1999. “Someone I had spent four and a half years of my life with had just died, and people were just wondering… they were talking to me and saying things like, ‘Listen.’ we understand this must be a very difficult time,” and then they went on: “but don’t you think Stephen would want this?”

“Hell no, he wouldn’t do that,” she told these people at the time. “Stephen would like me to be at his funeral and I intend to be there.” Yes, I was quite concerned about it.”

Elsewhere in the podcast with Horowitz, Winslet addressed the long-running debate about the film Titanic.

For years, fans have claimed that DiCaprio’s character, Jack Dawson, could have fit on the wooden door floating in the ocean at the end of the film, which would have saved his life. Instead, Dawson allowed Winslet’s character, Rose DeWitt Bukater, to float on the door as he froze in the cold water.

Winslet revealed to fans the behind-the-scenes secret of filming this iconic scene.

“Well, it was quite an uncomfortable tank… because, to burst the bubble, it was waist high at the time. So it was waist-high.

“Leo, I’m afraid to say it, was on his knees. I shouldn’t be saying it anyway, Jimmy Cameron will be calling me!” Winslet told Horowitz, referring to Titanic director, James Cameron.
