Gossip and entertainment news from the Newsweek contributor network

Dave Grohl made headlines in early September when he revealed he fathered a child out of wedlock. While the Foo Fighters lead singer shocked fans, some others weren’t surprised.

Longtime fans who know Grohl’s past have noticed a pattern in this situation, as well as in previous relationships.

In 1994, Grohl married photographer Jennifer Leigh Youngblood. They broke up two years later when Grohl admitted to multiple infidelities. Their divorce was finalized in 1997.

After the divorce, Grohl began dating snowboarder Tina Basich. However, Basich discovered that Grohl had been unfaithful and later decided to end their relationship.

Grohl then dated fellow musician Melissa Auf Der Mar – former bassist for the band Hole, fronted by Courtney Love – from 1999 to 2001, though it wasn’t widely known until she revealed it in a 2023 interview with the magazine. NME. However, Auf der Maur did not cite infidelity as the reason for ending the relationship.

“It was all love,” she told Auf Der Mar at the time. “(I) wanted out of the gigantic corporate hell that our music scene had become, and he wasn’t done yet and had some more to prove, ambition or business to do.”

Grohl married Jordyn Blum in 2003 and they have been together ever since. However, it was during this marriage that Grohl welcomed a child as a result of his infidelity. Grohl has three other daughters, all of whom he shares with Blum.

At the time of the baby reveal, Grohl said he was “working to regain” the trust of his wife and children and hoped to “earn their forgiveness.”

Neither Grohl nor Blum have expressed plans to divorce or separate, but Foo Fighters have withdrawn from their scheduled appearance at the Soundside Music Festival on Sunday, September 29.
