Bowen Yang provides context for a story about the SNL host that left the cast in tears

Saturday Night Live he’s just a few hours away from returning to TV schedule for 2024 kick off their landmark 50th season with some incredible performances upcoming hosts and musical guests. Bowen Yang addressed his previous comments on: SNL host who made many cast members cry and provided more context to the situation.

Fans couldn’t wait to see who Bowen Yang was talking about next Watch live what’s happening and he was he asked about the average SNL hosts of heaven. Saturday Night Live alums David Spade and Dana Carvey spoke with Yang about this moment on the show Fly on the wall podcastand Carvey emphasizes how terrifying it is SNL may be and that some people cope with stress through aggression. Yang agreed that the high-pressure atmosphere definitely contributed to the emotional reaction of the cast, saying:

Imagine staying up until 4 a.m. writing a draft and your host says, “I fucking hate this.” Your nerves are frayed, you will have a strange emotional reaction.

Writing for public consumption at any level requires a certain sensitivity—Bowen Yang quipped that it is “calloused all over the body” after having so many drafts rejected – so yes, even in the best of circumstances it would be difficult to be rejected so harshly. Add sleep deprivation to that and I’d be surprised if this didn’t happen more than once.

Dana Carvey called Bowen Yang’s confession “pretty mild,” especially since he didn’t mention a name Saturday Night Live the host in question, and it turns out that the position Fire Island star appeared on Andy Cohen’s show, is quite typical SNL cast members.

SNL has an infamously brutal schedulethis is why comedians don’t always stay long and why cast members who have been/have been there the longest they are so impressive. Emotions are undoubtedly high, but I hope that the host behavior Bowen Yang mentioned is the exception, not the rule, in the writers’ experience.
